Yurt Holidays And Compost Toilets

Why write an article on yurt holidays and compost toilets?  Certainly there is a connection!  The famous “compost toilet” may be familiar for many of you familiar with the concept of yurt holidays.  But what is a compost toilet?

Similar to a regular toilet the building is more or less the same.  Yes there is something that you sit on and it has a hole.

Yet the difference lies in that where you normally press a button for water flushing instead compost is used.  Simply, a scoop of compost is taken and put down the toilet instead of pressing the button or flush.

The compost can have special micro organisms added to it.  If these micro organisms are used I am told there should be no smell at all.  Not only is there no smell, but if these organisms are used, the end product can be used as a form of compost after it has been through the decomposition phase.  It does need to be put out and time is needed, like any compost.  But once decomposition has occurred the waste product makes for a very effective fertilizer.

The micro organisms that are used are very beneficial and helps to revitalize the matter and soil.  However this type of compost is only to be used on certain plants, it shouldn’t be used on all.

The compost toilet is a fantastic green solution in comparison to the regular flush system because it saves on water and the end product can be used as something that is not only useful but helps to rejuvenate the soil.

Because yurt holidays take the greener approach it is common to find green elements in a yurt.  The compost toilet being one of these.  In the yurt holidays industry compost toilets are becoming quite popular.  The compost toilet may either be inside the yurt or outside the yurt in a separate building.

Yurt holidays do cater for the greener traveller so be sure to try out a compost toilet to see what you think.
